A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show us your spin on the icon

Wild, rebellious and iconoclastic, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak has always been a symbol of unrestrained creativity. Over the last 50 years, this legendary collection has been enriched with some of the greatest horological innovations of all time – all while keeping the octagonal case shape and unique style as true to the original design as possible.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak, we’re thrilled to offer people a unique opportunity to present their own take on the Royal Oak. Officially supported by Audemars Piguet, this global design competition is open to people from all walks of life –  a rare chance for anyone to reimagine the iconic watch – customizing colors, materials and complications.

The three winning designs, chosen by François-Henry Bennahmias, CEO of Audemars Piguet, and Austen Chu, Founder & CEO of Wristcheck, will receive round trip Business Class flight tickets — for the winner and a guest — to Le Brassus, Switzerland, for a complete Audemars Piguet Le Brassus Experience.

The prize package includes an all-inclusive two-day stay at the Hotel Des Horlogers, as well as visits to the Audemars Piguet Manufacture and Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet. The three winners will also be given an opportunity to meet François-Henry Bennahmias and Austen Chu to discuss the experience. And, depending on feasibility, Audemars Piguet may, at its sole discretion, decide to produce the watch.

One of the many reasons why we love working closely with Audemars Piguet is because they are always willing to open their doors to the community at large. In January, AP’s CEO François-Henry Bennahmias challenged Wristcheck with hosting this competition in an exclusive interview with Founder, Austen Chu. “I give you the mission to launch a worldwide contest. Ask people to come up with ideas – functions, complications – on what they want on their Royal Oak,” said Mr. Bennahmias. “Let’s do this!”

Introduced in 1972, this octagonal watch with its integrated steel bracelet offered a timeless template for an icon that’s still one of the most stylish sports watches on the market. With this competition, Wristcheck invites anyone that wishes to participate to put their own spin on the Royal Oak’s legendary design. “In 2020, I had the absolute honor of collaborating with Audemars Piguet for the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar China Limited Edition – the first ever Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in full titanium. It’s been one of the most significant moments in my horological journey so far and I will always be grateful for the opportunity,” said Austen Chu. “ I’m very excited that Audemars Piguet has now challenged Wristcheck to host this global design competition.. It’s every watch enthusiast’s dream to design a watch in their own way, and now this is their chance!”
